    Guardian Industries is seeking you to become our next Coater Technical Manager.





    A Day In The Life Typically Includes


    This position is responsible for leading the Coater Department in maximizing long term value creation around Safety, Compliance, Quality, Customer Service, and advancing our Market Based Management (MBM), culture.  This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong collaboration skills across multiple departments and Department Managers.  This position works closely with Thin Films Engineers, Console Operators and other Production Personnel to create growth and long-term value.

     Coater Technical Manager Responsibilities:

    •  Utilizing SPC, statistical methods and data analysis to improve production processes including enhancements in yield, lowering costs and increasing manufacturing uptime.
    • Troubleshooting problems that occur during the manufacturing process of the optical coatings related to uniformity, color, etc.
    • Working closely with the Coater Equipment Manager as well as the Coater Manager to drive the operations forward.
    • Documenting standard operating procedures, training guidelines, and “what if” scenarios
    • Taking lead in new product development/transfer and maximizing manufacturing capabilities.
    • Establish operating parameters for new processes; conduct optimization experiments; establish best practices and procedures.
    • Ensure coater vacuum integrity is maintained leak-free: identify the potential leaks; create easy ways to leak check potential leaks; identify the frequency at which each potential leak can be checked.
    • Ensure coater conditioning is tracked and becomes well understood: acquire the tools necessary and become proficient at their use.
    • Ensure spectral matching is learned and followed: acquire and/or provide the tools necessary and become proficient at their use.
    • Ensure thin film uniformity is continuously improved upon, becoming proficient at improving it.
    • Leading complex projects in a team-based environment taking advantage of your excellent relationship building and communication skills.
    • Utilizing lean and/or continuous improvement methodologies to facilitate process improvements and teach others.
    • Working with customers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions (up to 20% travel can be expected).
    • Training production operators and working collaboratively with them to improve processes.
    • Understand and refer to Guardian SharePoint data in order to determine best practices, benchmark and review applicable documentation. Apply what’s been learned.

    What You Will Need

    An ideal candidate for this position will exhibit behaviors consistent with our Guiding Principles, be an organized professional with excellent analytical and communication skills, below are key technical requirements that are essential for success within the position:

    • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Ceramic Engineering, Physics, or one of the Engineering disciplines.
    • Experience TF Calc, Optilayer, Essential McLeod, or other thin film modeling packages.
    • 7 years’ minimum experience in Optical Thin Film technologies and vacuum related technologies focusing on reactive magnetron sputtering process.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
    • Minimum 5 years' of management experience in a large plant environment.
    • Large area sputtering system and/or sputtered optical thin film technologies a plus.
    • Familiarity with thin film optical materials and thin film characterization techniques such as Auger, XPS, SEM, TEM, AFM and XRD.
    • Experience with statistical methods and analysis.
    • Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
    • Ability to conduct design and process failure modes and effects analysis.
    • Experience with complex projects; ability to analyze problems quickly; development of corrective actions.
    • Ability to clearly present and communicate ideas, concepts, and plans across multiple levels.
