    Guardian is seeking an Architectural Design Specialist in our Troy, MI location.  Guardian’s products are in high demand by leading architecture firms around the globe…This is a great ground floor opportunity to learn about the field of architecture, and how a world leader in innovative glass products sells into this space.  This position is designed to prepare an individual to become a candidate for an Architectural Design Manager or other outside sales position.  The initial location for his position is in Troy, MI.  However, the successful candidate for this role must be willing to relocate to another (mutually agreed upon) city within 1-3 years as an outside sales opportunity becomes available.


    As an Architectural Design Specialist, you’ll partner with Architectural Design Managers to support the growth of projects within an assigned territory. You’ll learn how to identify early stage projects, conduct project research, monitor existing projects, offer leads to fabricators, glaziers, and window manufacturers.  You’ll also take ownership to drive regional project calls, answer incoming hotline calls and respond to email requests.  Our ADS team delivers product and technical responses to external customers,and provides administrative support to Guardian Outside Sales professionals.  No prior architectural or sales experience is needed…we’ll train you!



    Identify early planning stage projects

    • Partner with Guardian’s Architectural Design Managers (ADM’s) to support architectural promotion in the region.
    • Communication assistance with architects/designers to promote Guardian products for exterior and interior applications.
    • Provide product and application knowledge to gain specifications in architectural projects.
    • Use Guardian tools to assist the architect/designer in selecting the right glass for the project.
    • Utilize Dodge, trade publications, architect websites, etc. as sources for new projects or provide leads to the local ADM. Enter qualified leads/projects obtained from various sources into Guardian’s CRM system. Send sales leads or schedule follow-up as appropriate.
    • Respond to warm leads from various sources (SunGuard Website, InGlass Website Marketing Hotlines, SpecLink, TODL, etc.)
    • Communicate new project opportunities with the appropriate sales teams based on the location of the architect and project.

    Monitor existing projects and specifications

    • Partner with ADM’s and Territory Sales Managers (TSM’s) in assigned region to follow up on projects from early design stage to completion. Work to ensure Guardian’s products are specified.
    • Monitor and update projects in CRM system. Add/update key info at regular intervals.
    • Participate in project review meetings within assigned region.
    • Monitor projects at key stages in the project cycle; this includes calls to GC’s, fabricators and glaziers.
    • Follow up on substitution requests to obtain architect approval. Communicate approvals to the sales team and appropriate fabricators/glaziers.


    Provide project leads to fabricators / glazing contractors

    • Download bidding stage projects with glass and glazing specs from Dodge. Generate list of project opportunities at regular intervals.
    • Share leads with fabricators / glazing contractors. Provide updates on projects as appropriate.

    Administrative support

    • Assist ADM’s/TSM’s in territory research using Dodge, business journals, trade publications, websites, etc. Assist updating project and company information in CRM system.
    • Assist ADM’s/TSM’s with ordering samples, generating performance calculations, running CRM reports and reviewing specifications as needed.
    • Facilitate regional project review meetings.
    • Prepare substitution requests and collaborate with ADM’s to identify architects specifying competitor products for future opportunitie


    • Bachelor's degree.  Degree in Technical Design, Business, Architecture or Marketing a plus.  Experience selling commercial goods as an inside sales representative is helpful.


    • Fast-learning (quick to learn about new products, technologies, software, etc.)
    • Sales “mindset” -- Strong interpersonal and customer services skills. Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively over the phone
    • Extremely detail-oriented and well-organized
    • Experience with inbound and outbound calling
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (esp Excel), and familiarity with using web based applications
    • Experience with Infor or other CRM databases
