Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES AND INFLUENCE:

  • Identify and champion packaging projects that lead to improved customer satisfaction, quality, operational efficiencies, reduced cycle time and reduced cost.
  • Streamline the development and start-up of new project initiatives by leveraging an extensive knowledge base of packaging materials, manufacturing capabilities, and vendor capabilities.
  • Continuously seek optimized and/or cost effective packaging based on raw material pricing, availability, and vendor capabilities. Champions these solutions throughout the organization.
  • Design, develop and commercialize innovative and robust packaging designs for new and existing products
  • Provide packaging solutions to optimize total delivered cost (OEE, safety, quality) to align with company goals and objectives.
  • Supports business functions by serving as the technical packaging representative for renovation (line extension, repackaging, re-fresh and optimization) and innovation project types.
  • Creates project timelines and estimates capital/expense requirements for new or improved packaging initiatives.
  • Act as liaison between internal and external development teams for testing services
  • Provide project team leadership, motivation, and facilitation to engineers and operators
  • Investigate issues of material non-performance as needed. Perform packaging material testing with appropriate test equipment provided. Works with QA to correct problem areas.
  • Manage and maintain packaging specifications, SOPs, policies and procedures.

 

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong background knowledge in a variety of packaging materials such as wood boxes, corrugated boxes, foam materials, and paper.
  • Has proven capabilities of supporting multi-plant projects and working directly with plant floor employees to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Strong math skills, ability to prepare a cost analysis and good root-cause analysis skills.
  • Proficient in Word for Windows and Excel, including development and maintenance of moderately complex spreadsheet: and ability to learn to operate packaging design and specification/formulation software.
  • Maintains packaging industry & regulatory awareness by keeping up to date with applicable literature for compliance with new and existing packaging regulations.
  • Provides clear expectations, manages accountability, gains commitment, takes responsibility for project team's activities, is approachable, openly supports organizational objectives.
  • Promotes continuous improvement, sets high personal and professional standards, and persists when faced with adversity.

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time within a flexible work schedule.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent Packaging Engineering experience.
  • 5+ years progressive, related work experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with multifunctional development teams.
  • Manufacturing experience required.
