Responsibilities

 

    • Become in-house SME on existing durability testing by reviewing and updating current test procedures. Establish and maintain knowledge of latest technological/scientific trends
    • Guide and support maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory accelerated environmental resistance equipment such as fog chambers, UV and Xenon weatherometers, and temperature-humidity chambers.
    • Actively seek/develop new/improve existing durability test methodology to enhance product efficiency and field performance predictability.
    • Establish product reliability database through accelerated lab testing and test method development, accelerated field testing (EMMA/EMMAQUA), field failure and success analysis.
    • Work with R&D scientists to analyze results and troubleshoot any issues with products or lab instrumentation/equipment.
    • Work with corporate and regional teams on test setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and failure analysis as needed

Requirements:

    • M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Paint and Coatings Engineering, or Chemical Engineering 5-10 yrs, or Ph.D. & 3-5 yrs of industrial experience
    • Hands-on experience with standard ASTM, ISO coating environmental resistance testing standards: fog (salt, humidity, CASS); adhesion, etc.
    • In-depth knowledge of the main scientific root causes of the most important material surface properties: corrosion phenomena, oxidation phenomena, passivation, chemical resistance, mechanical properties such as hardness and scratch resistance.
    • Knowledgeable regarding coating science and technology, including testing and application
    • Working knowledge in applied quality control methods including SPC, control charting, gage R&Rs, statistical DoE
    • Knowledgeable of reliability analysis, reliability prediction methods and accelerated life testing
    Must be able to clearly communicate scientific information both written and oral
