Responsibilities

 

 

 

Technical:

  • Can quickly establish technical credibility and presence both internally and with customers.
  • Contributes to building a strong IP portfolio.
  • Depth of technical knowledge in at least one of the Guardian technology areas, as well as sufficient technical knowledge to be able to make sound technical decisions.
  • Identifies the critical technical problems /challenges. Good judgment in identification and selection of technical path and the appropriate depth of research needed for project success.

 

Project Management:

  • Defines project goals and deliverables in alignment with business objective.
  • Ability to prioritize and set realistic timeframes for deliverables. Identifies risks and sets mitigation actions.
  • Leads across organizational boundaries. Collaborates with other functions as needed for total project success.
  • Balance high technical quality with the practicality of execution & timing. Understands when the details add value and when they do not.
  • Organizational skills - keeps the project team focused, tracks progress, and makes timely adjustments.
  • Ensures team members have clear written goals and objectives that are aligned with the project and agreed with the team member and his/her supervisor.
  • Understands and knows how to use supporting tools (i.e. project planning, risk mitigation, statistical etc).

 

People Management:

  • Establishes an effective project team with competencies and depth needed for success.
  • Ability to motivate and influence individuals and teams. Timely management of conflict.
  • Coach, develop and give clear, direct, and timely feedback
  • Knows how and when to leverage resources from other parts of the organization.
  • Recognizes and is sensitive to cultural differences and knows how to manage these.

 

Communication:

  • Knows who to communicate with as well as when and how much to communicate.
  • Ability to effectively construct and deliver direct and clear messages that are timely and appropriate for the intended audience, ensuring that messages are understood as intended.
  • Deliberately communicates project needs, challenges, decisions and proposed solutions to the appropriate people.
  • Ability to deliver and manage bad messages as well as good messages.

 

Leadership:

  • Takes ownership and responsibility for the project success. Drives project forward to results.
  • High level of personal motivation and accountability.
  • Engage effectively with all levels of the organization. Builds and maintains the relationships needed for effective communication and alignment.
  • Makes decisions that demonstrate good judgment and take into consideration the input of others.
  • Demonstrates the willingness and ability to make decisions and take risks without having 100% certainty.
  • Effectively deals with ambiguity from both a business and R&D perspective.
  • Ability to influence without authority.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience working on a customer focused or product development project where the outcome was successful (to learn what it takes to be successful).
  • Experience leading some aspects of a project (to have practiced some or all of the project management skills).
  • Experience with a failed project (to learn from failures).

  • Experience in a manufacturing plant (especially if process role)
