Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities:

  • Become in-house SME on existing optical measurement testing by participating in, reviewing and updating Guardian’s current test procedures.
  • Setup, use, train new personnel, help to direct technician on maintaining and troubleshooting optical measurement equipment such as UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometers and ellipsometers, FTIR, haze and gloss meters.
  • Work with R&D scientists to analyze results and troubleshoot any issues with products or lab instrumentation/equipment.
  • Work with corporate and plant QC teams on test, setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and failure analysis as directed.
  • Actively seek/develop new/improve existing optical measurement test methodology to enhance product development efficiency and plant QA/QC methodology for base glass and coated glass products.

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Analytical Chemistry, Paint and Coatings Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Chemical Engineering and 10+ yrs, or M.S. & 5-10 yrs, or Ph.D. & 3-5 yrs of industrial experience
  • Basic understanding of a broad range of spectroscopic techniques with experience using (UV-VIS-NIR) spectrophotometers, FTIR, colorimeters, haze meters, and gloss meters is required
  • Method verification and validation experience
  • Innovative problem solving skills and good prioritization skills
  • Strong computer base skills are required. Some programming experience such as Visual Basic in Excel is preferred
  • Working knowledge of thin films, optical glass, and microscopic material characterization techniques such as TEM, SEM, AFM and other spectroscopic techniques such as XRD, XRF, XPS, and Auger would be a plus
  • Knowledgeable in applied quality control methods including SPC, control charting, gage R&Rs, statistical DoE, and root cause analysis a plus
