• Vacuum Coater Process Engineer

    • Proactively generate and deliver equipment improvements by utilizing SPC, statistical methods and data analysis to improve equipment reliability including enhancements in yield, lowering costs and increasing manufacturing uptime
    • Lead Continuous improvement of equipment, closely with the production, maintenance, development and quality departments
    • Troubleshoot problems that occur during the manufacturing process of the optical coatings related to equipment reliability, vacuum integrity, and washer operation
    • Ensure coater vacuum integrity is maintained leak-free: identify potential leaks, determine easy ways to leak check, identify the frequency at which checking is needed
    • Ensure glass surface is washed adequately allowing deposition of highly sensitive coatings and become proficient at improving it
    • Implement best practices and procedures, document standard operating procedures, training guidelines, and “what if” scenarios
    • Establish operating parameters for new equipment, conduct optimization experiments
    • Train production operators and work collaboratively with them to improve the equipment
    • Understand the equipment operation and maintenance on a sputtering based industrial glass coating line.
    • Capable of troubleshooting vacuum systems
    • May require some shift work Monday – Friday. Could be called during scheduled “on-call” periods day/night/weekends to resolve problems 
    • Conduct designed experiments to understand manufacturing processes, improve efficiencies and improve product quality
    • Support R&D experiments on production equipment. Assist in the planning, execution and analysis of these experiments




    • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Ceramic Engineering, Physics, or one of the Engineering disciplines
    • Experience in Optical Thin Film technologies and vacuum related technologies focusing on reactive magnetron sputtering process and equipment is an advantage
    • Experience with low vacuum equipment and surface preparation equipment
    • Experience with statistical methods and analysis
    • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance tools for equipment
    • Experience in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
    • Ability to clearly present and communicate ideas, concepts, and plans across multiple levels
    • Ability to conduct design and process failure modes and effects analysis
    • Experience with complex projects, ability to analyze problems quickly and develop corrective actions
    • Experience with MS Excel
    • Ability to generate design of experiments (DOE) documentation and execute the plan(s) associated with them
